The solutions to some problems veer towards the obvious, while others require advanced mathematics to tackle. Likewise, a few can be solved with paper and pencil and a good dose of insight. Most however, will require the aid of a computer program written in the language of your choice.

  • Project Euler — Problem 80 Solution.

A sample problem Each program you execute should output your result within a minute. If you have, your answer will be added to the list of problems you solved and will count towards your overall score, while bumping up your position on the participant scoreboards. There are several scoreboards, depending on what level you are at, which in turn is determined by the number of problems you have solved so far.

My Project Euler statistics

Project Euler truly deserves five stars. I recommend it highly to anyone who is unafraid of writing a few lines of code in order to solve interesting math problems. Antonio started Math Blog more than a decade ago. He has a deep-rooted passion for mathematics and programming. He is part of the Emerging Technologies team in the Analytics group at IBM, a team that focuses on data science and big data. They are fun challenges. Here is a blog that posts many solutions, especially to some of the harder ones.

'Project Euler' like problems on Brilliant

Online solutions to some of the problems exist if you search for them. But that misses the whole point of the exercise.

The premise behind the whole site is to come up with your own solutions. I think project Euler could be vastly improved by providing links to educational material dealing with the specific problem you are working on — perhaps even a wiki.

Tested it and looks fun. What the site lacks is a list on the references — to give an idea of how each problem originated and what we could use to solve them.

Conclusion

Fib numbers are not 1,2,3,5,8 but 1,1,2,3,5,8 … huge difference when applied the logic. You are absolutely right, I jumped to the conclusion after seeing that the description is exactly the same as the one on Project Euler and glossed over the rest of the detail I was clearly doing anything but reading.

Your Answer

Many apologies. Your code is definitely right, but using your logic, is the 12th term. If we start from 1, 2, 3, 5, 8… etc.

Thank you for taking the time to explain the issue and correct me, too! This was totally my problem as well, thanks! Your code is much simpler than mine and probably takes up way less memory too haha! MostafaSalama June 10, , pm 1.
